With Threads, you can:
- Create text posts up to 500 characters long and add links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
- Discover and join public conversations on topics that interest you, from sports and entertainment to politics and culture.
- Interact with other users by liking, commenting, and replying to their posts.
- Customize your profile with a username, bio, and profile picture that are separate from your Instagram account.

Threads is also compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet. This means that you can communicate with users across different platforms and services, without being locked into a single network. The Instagram team is working on making Threads more compatible with these networks in the near future.
Interoperable social networks

Instagram is a global platform where billions of people share their photos and videos with each other. The vision with Threads is to extend the power of Instagram to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas. Just like on Instagram, with Threads you can follow and connect with friends and creators who share your interests – including the people you follow on Instagram and beyond. How to Install Threads by Instagram?
The first thing to use threads is to have an Instagram account, if you don’t have one download Instagram first and sign up.
Once you do that, go to the Play Store by Google or Apple Store by Apple and Search for “Threads: an app by Instagram” and you will see the following icon
Based on the country you are living in, Threads might not be available at times if you want to download it as it is not globally available at this moment. If it’s available then download it and open it.
Based on your Instagram account, if you are logged in the Instagram, the app will pick up the Instagram account which you will see like given below
Once you click on the Instagram account, you will be taken to your account where you will see your profile, search, home, and post creation options. Here is how it looks when you land on the Home view.
The Home View
The home view is where are the posts from your followers and the ones you follow are. The view is very simple and understandable at first look. A post is composed of text, video, or image and social interactions in the form of comments, likes, and shares.
The Profile View
The profile view is the place where you can edit your bio and profile information, all your posts, and profile settings. You can click on the middle icon which is for post creation and you will land on a view somewhat similar to this.
You can write a post of up to 500 characters, drop a video or image and post it right away which will be visible to the public.
Threads is designed to be a safe and inclusive space for everyone. That’s why it automatically set your profile to private if you are under 16 (or under 18 in some countries) when you join Threads. You can choose who to follow on Threads from your Instagram contacts, or discover new people who share your interests. Threads also support the same accessibility features as Instagram, such as screen reader support and AI-generated image descriptions.
